Gospel in Life – Heart
WOW! This week’s session in Gospel in Life by Tim Keller was very challenging. Our Small Group had a great discussion this week and will probably make some adjustments to our schedules for next week to allow more time for digging and discussing. That is a sign of a meaningful study!!
This week I was floored by the teaching and shocked at the level of my cultural conformity and my relationship with God. The home study question “What will it mean for you to let “the gospel teach you” – to let “the gospel sink down deeply into your heart?” was very challenging to me. Sadly, I don’t think it should have presented such a challenge.
The real revelation came as I unpacked his teaching through our group discussion. I found that I am the elder brother. My heart still longs for the “things” of God, not just God – The Father. I have been down this path before and have had times in my life that my elder brother leanings were not as dominate, but somehow I believe that I have moved back to the elder position. My prayer life proves me out.
I have to believe that the elder brother was busy all the time. Too busy to spend time with his father. Too busy to enjoy the benefits his father had already provided. Too busy for relationships. Just too busy.
When I wipe away all my busyness, I realize that The Father wants me. Not my money, not my next mission, not my daily quiet time, not my skills, not my eloquent writing(haha), he just wants me. Me.
