What we tell our kids about Santa

I’ll probably post this every year until I die (or am physically or mentally unable to be your pastor any longer).  If you – like me – are a parent that struggles with questions surrounding what you’ll tell your kids about Santa, this is an incredibly insightful and Biblical post from Mark Driscoll on this issue.

It’s so good, I’ve printed off a copy to come back to every year.  Here you go, parents…

What we tell our kids about Santa

  1. My kids had never even heard of Santa Claus until they were nearly 4 years old. But once they became aware of him we handled it nearly identically as Mark Driscoll. We told them that he was based on a real man, but there is alot of “fun” myth built into the story. Now, they playfully ask what is Santa going to bring them for Christmas. I say, “The same thing he brought you last year… nothing. God has blessed Daddy with a good job that pays enough money to buy you nice presents for Christmas. So, all of your presents are actually from God. He just lets Mommy and Daddy choose what the gifts actually are.”

  2. That’s awesome, Rick! I love that.
